As a former union member where I also served as strike captain, I am a strong supporter of labor unions when those unions work in cooperation with the businesses that they are employed in.
For too long, unions have been badly mismanaged by incompetent and corrupt union leaders who create a hostile work environment between employee and employer.
Where unions are formed to protect the workers salaries, fringe benefits, retirement, and work safety precautions; we have a viable and balanced relationship for the individual business and the industry.
Whereas, unions that promote divisiveness, poor performance, and use bullying tactics against employers and associates to achieve unrealistic and special treatment goals; those unions and their leaders must be held accountable.
In this economy where salaries are low and stagnant, unions offer the best solution to ensure that workers are properly paid and fairly treated as they serve as partners in the success of their business.
But these unions must be reasonable in their requests and must adhere to a more shared responsibility of advancing their company's products and services.
